The tip in this post is one for all of my 3R buddies, moms, dads and anyone who is into recycling their household batteries. Batteries are not to be thrown out with the normal trash. These little wonders of temporary energy are hazardous and add damaging and very toxic chemicals into dump sites, affecting the biological breakdown of the trash. There are many stores that will accept batteries to be dropped off for recycling. Most often in your local grocery, pharmacy or hardware store you can find collection sites near the entrance.
Currently my son is into Thomas the Train, more specifically the battery operated trains. As you can imagine we burn through a lot of batteries. I needed a better way to collect and hold our used batteries. I decided to utilize one of his old baby wipe containers. It is small and compact and can be placed almost anywhere that is convenient to drop in used up batteries. There are also no modifications that need to be done. Below are some snapshots of my battery holder.
